Sushi lunch at Maki Maki in Woburn

My coworkers, Jenn, Jill and I went to Maki Maki in Woburn for a sushi lunch.  The restaurant offers an "All you can eat" option for $ 14.99 a person for lunch.  The downside is that everyone at the table has to get that choice or no one can.  We arrive a little past noon and the restaurant was almost empty with the exception of a couple tables in the dining room.

When you first walk in, you pass by the salad station and cut up fresh fruits.  Behind the stations, the sushi chef preps the meals.  I thought the layout was a bit weird.

We were seated and the waitress brought over some menus.  We had to verbally order the items as there was no check off sheet some of the other restaurants offer.  The lunch menu had a few appetizers, soups, maki rolls but nothing to write home to mom about.

After we placed our order, I went to the salad bar and got some seaweed salad.  It was surprisingly.
tasty.

Our appetizers came out and we shared endamame, giozas and shumai.  They were OK,  The endamame were heavily salted.

I liked that you could order individual pieces of the appetizers and wasn't subject to an order.  We got 2 pieces of shrimp tempura for those who ate shrimp.

Jenn is still getting her feet wet with sushi, so we played it safe.  For maki rolls, we ordered California, spicy tuna, shrimp tempura and a specialty roll.  I was surprised that the spicy tuna wasn't topped of with the spicy mayo sauce.  We had to ask for it on the side.  The rolls were JUST OK, the rice was on the gummy/sticky side.

We were almost done and asked for our check when the chicken terriyaki finally came out.  It was dry, bland and was overcooked.

Overall, I probably won't be visiting again.  Service was average and the food was mediocare; I think you can get a better bang for your buck at Tapei in Woburn.

Thanks for lunch Jill! Next time, I'll buy and pick out a better place.

Here are a few other pics from a more recent visit (July 2015)
